Minutes of the Brusly Landmark & Heritage Commission – January 26, 2009

A meeting of the Town of Brusly Landmark and Heritage Commission was held on Monday, January 26, 2009 in the Centennial Room, Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana. Chairman Jim Rills opened the meeting at 6:30 PM. The chairman noted that the meeting was changed to this date due to the Martin Luther King Holiday.

Voting Members Present: Jim Rills, Shane Sarradet, Margaret Canella.
Voting Members Absent: Rose Jackson, Shirley Jordan.

Non-voting Members Present: Brian Falcon and Kevin Durbin.
Non-voting Members Absent : Jason Creighton.;

Others present: Marianne Berthelot, Secretary, Joanne Bourgeois, Brusly Town Council, Edith Owens, Catherine Blanchard.

Upon motion of Mr. Sarradet, seconded by Mrs. Canella, the minutes of the October 20, 2008 meeting were approved as written.

Ms. Bourgeois presented six applications for Certified Landmark Plaques. She advised the members that all six meet the requirements. They are:

1. Brad & LaDonna Waldrep for the Foret House;
2. Rodney & Linda Varnell for the Songy House;
3. Maureen Dupuy Foster for the Mutt & Margaret Dupuy House;
4. Paula and Richard Soniat for the Theresa Hebert House;
5. Paula & Richard Soniat for the Jeanne Dupuy House;
6. Joyce LeJeune for the John B. LeJeune Sr. House.

Mr. Sarradet made a motion to recommend the six applicants to the Brusly Town Council for consideration. Mrs. Canella seconded the motion which carried unanimously.

Kevin Durbin entered the meeting at this time.

Memberships on the Commission were reviewed; the Secretary advised that three members did not respond to the letter sent out asking for an affirmation that they wished to remain on the commission. These three members were not present at the meeting; it was further noted that they were absent from at least three meetings since they were appointed and had not participated in any of the commission activities.

Ms. Bourgeois reported that the Landmark Book sales had reached 300; if sales continue as they have to date, we may consider ordering additional copies.

The beautification and landscaping of St. James Square was briefly discussed. Entergy will be contacted again and other alternatives will be pursued.
Mrs. Canella made a motion to adjourn. Mr. Sarradet seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

Meeting of the Brusly Landmark & Heritage Commission adjourned at 7:20 PM.
