Minutes of the Brusly Landmark & Heritage Commission – October 15, 2012

A meeting of the Brusly Landmark and Heritage Commission was held on Monday October 15, 2012, Brusly Town Hall, Brusly, Louisiana.

Chairman Rills called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. Commissioner Soniat led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following officials present:

Commission Chairman: Jim Rills
Commission Members: Billy Bourgeois, Sara Grady, Margaret Canella, Henry Soniat
Advisory Members: Brian Falcon
Absent: Rose Jackson, Shirley Jordan, Kevin Durbin

Others present: Joanne Bourgeois, Edith Owens, Billy Hebert

Commissioner Jordan arrived at 6:32 P.M.

Upon motion of Commissioner Grady; seconded by Commissioner Canella, the minutes of the July 16, 2012 meeting were approved as written.

Landmark Plaque Applications:
Ms. Joanne Bourgeois presented the following applications for Landmark Plaques:
•Steve & Michele Sarradet Property – 334 W. Main St .- Fernand & Anita Sarradet Home
•Lamar & Susan Thomas Property – 521 Gwin St. – Helen Landry Home

A motion to recommend the Sarradet Property to the Town Council as a Landmark Plaque Recipient was made by Commissioner Soniat; seconded by Commissioner Grady. The Motion passed unanimously.

A motion to recommend the Thomas Property to the Town Council as a Landmark Plaque recipient was made by Commissioner Bourgeois; seconded by Commissioner Jordan. The motion passed unanimously.

Ms. Joanne Bourgeois also mentioned two other properties located on Gwin St. that she hoped would be turning in applications before January of 2013.

Chairman Rills invited all Commissioners to state their intent to continue serving on the board by filling out a form provided to them in the meeting materials. Ms. Bourgeois took this opportunity to introduce Mr. Billy Hebert, who will be recommended to the Town Council as an Advisory Member to the Landmark & Heritage Commission.

Chairman Rills introduced the newest member to the Board, Mr. Henry Soniat, thanking him for his service to the Commission.
Members viewed a 1914 photo of Brusly, located on the EBR Digital Library site and shared by Brian Falcon, and
an early 1900s photo of the Back Brusly Road shard by Rita Gay LeBlanc Huff. Each photo generated comments
and questions.

The 2013 meeting dates of the Landmark & Heritage Commission were set as follows:
• January 28, 2013
• April 15, 2013
• July 15, 2013
• October 21, 2013

A motion was made by Commissioner Grady to adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Bourgeois. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. Commission Chairman Rills adjourned the meeting at 7:04 P.M.
