The regular meeting of the Town of Brusly was held this date, July 11, 2011 at the Brusly Town Hall.
Council Member Hebert led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call determined the following officials present:
Mayor: Joey Normand
Council Members: Thomas Olinde, Joanne Bourgeois, Landess Hebert,
Shane André, Chris Kershaw
Town Attorney: Thomas Acosta, Jr.
A motion to approve the minutes of the Town’s regular meeting of June 13, 2011, was made by Council Member Kershaw and seconded by Council Member Olinde. Motion passed with a unanimous vote.
Public Works Committee:
Upon the Mayor’s recommendation a motion Authorizing Mayor to Sign Contract with Architects for Police/Fire Station was made by Council Member Bourgeois; seconded by Council Member Olinde. Mayor Normand opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments the motion passed unanimously.
Upon the Mayor’s recommendation a motion was made by Council Member André; seconded by Council Member Kershaw to approve the construction drawings for River Mill Reserve (Lots 101 – 110). Mayor Normand opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments the motion passed unanimously.
Planning and Zoning Committee:
Upon the recommendation of the Planning & Zoning Commission a motion to grant the variance request of Scott Hunt & DeEtte Hunt on rear setback of Lot #81, Live Oak Subdivision, was made by Council Member André; seconded by Council Member Olinde. The Mayor opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments the motion passed unanimously.

Police Committee:
Upon the recommendation of Mayor Normand a motion to appoint Landess Hebert to Police Committee Chair was made by Council Member Bourgeois; seconded by Council Member Kershaw. The Mayor opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments a roll call vote was had with the following results:
Yeas: Bourgeois, Kershaw
Nays: André, Olinde
Abstaining: Hebert
Absent: None
Mayor Normand cast the tie breaking vote of “Yea” approving the appointment.

Upon the recommendation of Mayor Normand a motion to decline participating in the Parish election to close bars at 10:00 PM was made by Council Member André; seconded by Council Member Bourgeois. The Mayor opened the floor for public comment. Hearing no comments a roll call vote was had with the following results:

Fire Department Report:
Fire Chief Alleman gave the Fire Chief’s report for June. There was one (1) fire call inside the Town and five (5) outside of Town. There were three (3) first aid calls inside of Town and five (5) outside of Town. There were three (3) motor vehicle crashes and four (4) gas odors. The total calls for the month were twenty-one (21). The total for the year is one hundred fifty-six (156).
Police Department Report:
Report for the month of June was given by Chief Whaley. There were six (6) wrecks, fifteen (15) bench warrant arrests, one (1) damage to property, two (2) thefts, one (1) burglary, ten (10) alarms, sixteen (16) assists to other agencies, one (1) juvenile matter, four (4) traffic arrests and fifteen (15) miscellaneous calls. For the month’s total, there were 71 calls, 124 citations and 161 violations.
Correspondence:
Mayor Normand received a Thank You note from Brusly Middle School for the Town’s support of the I-LEAP fair. The Mayor also received a Thank You note from the Senior Citizens Group for hosting a luncheon and educational presentation given by Council Member Bourgeois. The Mayor received a copy of a WBRP School Board Resolution requesting DOTD to add a signal light in front of the sugar mill.
Mayor’s Report:
Mayor Normand, Council Members Bourgeois and Hebert attended a LMA District H meeting in Slaughter. The Mayor and Council Members Bourgeois and Kershaw attended the CRPC Meeting held in Port Allen. Mayor Normand reported on a discussion with the Parish President on the subject of Sales Tax Redistribution for the Fire Districts. The subject of Sales Tax Redistribution was also discussed at the July 5th Fire Sub-district #2 Meeting.

There will be a Landmark & Heritage Meeting on July 18th at 6:30 PM.
A motion was made by Council Member André to adjourn; seconded by Council Member Olinde. The motion passed with a unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 PM
